About Course

This course provides a comprehensive examination of
the evolving policy frameworks, governance structures,
and regulatory approaches that shape the global
development, deployment, and societal impact of
artificial intelligence. Students will explore how national
governments, international organizations, and the
private sector are actively designing and implementing
policies—such as the EU AI Act, national AI strategies,
and corporate ethics guidelines—to maximize AI’s
societal benefits while proactively mitigating critical
risks like bias, privacy concerns, and accountability
issues.

What Will You Learn?

  • Critically evaluate key national AI strategies and international policy initiatives, including the EU AI Act, US AI Executive Order, and OECD AI Principles.
  • Compare diverse AI regulatory models, such as sector-specific, horizontal, and sandbox approaches, across various jurisdictions.
  • Design and implement effective internal AI governance policies, ethical guidelines, and robust risk management protocols for organizations utilizing
  • AI systems.
  • Assess the effectiveness and socio-economic impacts of current and proposed AI regulations on innovation, market competition, and fundamental human rights.
  • Identify and effectively engage with key stakeholders—including legislative bodies, industry consortia, civil society organizations, and AI ethics boards—within complex AI governance ecosystems.
  • Integrate core principles of fairness, transparency, accountability, and human oversight into the design and operational mechanisms of AI governance frameworks

Course Content

Global AI Policy Landscape
Survey national AI strategies from major regions (e.g., European Union, United States, China) and international coordination efforts by bodies like the UN, OECD, and G7. Conduct a comparative analysis of differing regulatory philosophies and their implications for safety, privacy, competition, labor, and human rights. Analyze diverse stakeholder perspectives—from government and industry to academia and civil society—in the formulation of AI policy.

Capstone Project
Students will undertake a significant project culminating in either the development of a detailed, actionable AI governance framework for a specific organization (e.g., a large tech company, a healthcare provider, or a municipal government agency) or a comprehensive policy analysis of an existing or proposed AI regulation (e.g., a specific section of the EU AI Act, a national AI strategy). The project must thoroughly consider stakeholder interests, practical implementation mechanisms, compliance strategies, and a detailed assessment of potential societal, economic, and ethical impacts, presented as a professional policy paper, white paper, or governance blueprint.
